So, it has been a LONG time since I have written my blog but today I received an email from one of my readers and it gave me chills!
It seems obvious that being positive would make for a more productive work environment but so often I have seen and heard of the negativity that seeps in.
I often hear the debate about can the nice girl get the corner office or in other words, is she too nice to be the boss?
The latest census data showed that 51% of women today are not married. Yep, the majority of us are unmarried - but for many different reasons...
I recently launched my own business - www.Fashion-Hound.com - where you can create your own custom-designed, made-to-order, hand-sewn dog collars and leas
I just read an article yesterday in the NY Times about working moms who savor business travel as a means to escape. Sure she is torn by being away from her children and all of the preparation that goes into making everything run smoothly while she is away, but the truth is that she enjoys a bit of "me time" every now and then.
For so many years I have heard that saying that "patience is a virtue" but I have yet to find it to be worth the wait (so to speak) in today's corporate world. It is no longer about pay raises or promotions based on merit - today it is how well you play the politics game or how quickly you recognize the right time to jump ship and start seeking the next opportunity. Even if you end up doing the same job, same role, same responsibilities somewhere else, you are likely to be paid higher and get more respect in a new position at a new company. What a horrible reality but the truth about today's world.
Today my boss sent me a little email first thing this morning so it was one of the first things I read when I got in this morning. It could have gone either way - good or bad... but luckily, it turned out to be super supportive and nice.
Today I asked my boss for my performance review yet again and while she resisted at first, once we started talking she did give me some real pats on the back and also a few things to work on. AHHH... what a great feeling just to know that she knows that I am interested in improving and advancing to the next level. Just putting it all out there and having the conversation has not only taken a big weight off my shoulder but also has put a spring in my step because now I know that I am well positioned in her mind to take the next step for career advancement!
I had no meetings today and WOW what a difference it makes! I got so much done and checked off my "to do" list. The insanity we have been experiencing around the office the past couple of weeks seems to be temporarily slowing down and I can breathe again. And no better time than in time for the Lost season 3 premiere tonight!!
