Follow Your Dreams and Success Will Be Yours

Today I was looking for some down time after a long but very successful week on the new business front. However, something very sad happened this week. I work in a small office of only about 25 women and we had to let someone go who was only hired about three months ago. She was hired to fill the role of a senior leader and was being paid as such however, she was not able to perform at the level necessary to make things work. The good news is that she had moved here from New York City for this job but had left behind an home she loved and a man she was falling for... so the news was not all that badly received by our "NY Lady" since she was eager to return to her life in NYC.

So I guess in the end, things happen for a reason but I cannot help but look back on this week as a time of reflection and great sadness. It makes me so very disapointed that we could not all make things work for NY Lady but at the same time she was not 100% committed to making things work either for personal reasons. I have worked with people in the past who were let go but never have I worked in such a small company that it hit home quite so much.

I guess the bottomline is that again I echo my words that I seem to repeat quite often as a career coach - follow your dreams and success will be yours. But I add a few words of additional advice as well in reflection from this difficult week - if you find yourself in a situation that is not true to who you are and what your heart desires, then you should find a way out so that you can find happiness in your dreams. Sticking around and waiting for a miracle to drop in your lap could not be more unproductive - if you want change you must seek it out and not be afraid to embrace it when you find it.

I wish this NY Lady all the luck in the world and I hope that she knows how deeply I believe in her ability to do anything she sets her mind and heart to. We all can find happiness if we just take the time to listen to what is inside... I hope you will take time today to think about what makes you happy and to start crafting a plan to go out and make it happen!

Have a great weekend,

Michelle, Her Career Coach
